Podcast Junkie

I hear the first step of recovery is to admit there is a problem. Hello, my name is Rachelle and I am a podcast junkie. Step one-check! I have had quite my fill of them lately.

Monday morning I flew into Los Angeles from Kansas City and was in the full swing of things by the evening. Tuesday I had book table and then service. Oh and by the way It's A Grind evidently closed in my absence and I am expecting to be in a state of mourning for maybe- the rest of my life. Wednesday was full of Kaiya time and making birthday invites time and more Kaiya time. Thursday was when it all went down, my binge on podcasts.

I hadn't been able to move my things into my little house before I left for Kansas because the carpet had yet to be installed. So since I have been back there has been a lot of unpacking, moving, adjusting, cleaning, arranging, organizing, switching, turning and the like. Thursday was my designated day to get a bulk of the work done. So really it isn't my fault. It was like the perfect storm. I was alone, I was working in silence, I had several podcasts I hadn't listened to while in Kansas. I had even had a new podcast suggested to me by my dad (who is apparently an enabler) that I wanted to check out. I didn't think I would be hurting anyone but myself.

I didn't realize that it was a problem until I found out that I was completely oblivious to the fact that someone had been knocking on my door for somewhere around ten minutes. Also it has been brought to my attention that I discuss my podcast knowledge at an unhealthy level and talk as if I actually know some of the podcasters personally.

I can't and actually won't promise you that I will curb the amount of time spent listening to podcasts, but I will try to spare you the unnecessary "facts" and useless data I obtain from them. Like for instance how some animals sleep only one side of their brain at a time like dolphins because they can't breathe involuntarily and must stay close to the top of the water. Or tell you a story about the Apron Strings of Savannah or about a man who saves people from jumping off of the Yangtze River bridge in China. No, I will spare you of such things.

I know it isn't much but it is a baby step. Baby steps people!

PS My roommate, Joy and I have started a blog all about our little home that we have appropriately named our Little Half Pint (since our address has a 1/2 in it, literally.) After one day of being roommates we already had a joined email account and blog. What next? We haven't written anything yet but for future reference this is the address. www.halfpinthome.blogspot.com

PSS Here are some photos I never had the chance to share with you from my horseback riding day in Kansas.

I'm more of a recreational user right now, since my work doesn't allow the necessary paraphernalia (headphones, iPods, etc). But thank you for admitting your problem and providing this eye-opening piece with a rare look inside a junkie's life.

On another note, but the same subject, I recently heard someone say that radio is the theatre of the mind, and that made me love it even more.

Your last few posts have been really good, by the way.
